I am so glad that I found this podcast! It’s so interesting to hear the other versions of La Llorona. In my grandma’s version, the husband wasn’t a higher status, and they were married. But in her version, he was an unfaithful drunk who left her for another woman. I had always internalized the message as be discerning when it comes to men because you have to bear the consequences of ending up with a bad one. In the story, he doesn’t bear any consequence, loss, or punishment, unlike her.
